Syncing DayBoard Companion

On the dashboard, choose Pair Companion and scan the QR code with your iPhone camera. DayBoard Companion will connect to that specific dashboard and publish selected calendar and reminder summaries to the paired feed. If you skip QR pairing, DayBoard can still use private iCloud sync when both devices are signed in to the same iCloud account.

To keep the TV up to date without opening DayBoard Companion, choose Sync Automatically in DayBoard Companion and tap Add the Sync Shortcut (or download it here). It runs DayBoard's Sync in the background when you close Calendar or Reminders, when you plug in your iPhone, and every morning at a time Shortcuts asks for while you add it. Shortcuts adds those three automations turned off: open the shortcut and, on each one, tap “Automation is turned off” and turn it on. The Sync button on the DayBoard widget also syncs without opening the app.

Removing Synced Data

In DayBoard Companion, tap Clear Feed to remove published calendar and reminder summaries from the active DayBoard feed.

Pricing

The DayBoard dashboard is free. Two optional plans add to it, bought on the Apple TV: in the calendar panel, scroll down to Plans and choose DayBoard Plus and Host.

Purchases apply to every Apple TV signed in with the same Apple Account. To restore them on another Apple TV, open Plans and choose Restore Purchases. To manage or cancel a subscription, go to Settings › Users and Accounts on the Apple TV, or your Apple Account's subscriptions on any device.

Dashboard View

Choose what the TV is for, on the TV (calendar panel › Dashboard View) or in DayBoard Companion (TV Settings › Dashboard View):

Turning the TV On Automatically

A tvOS app can't wake its Apple TV or reopen itself, but an iPhone shortcut can. In DayBoard Companion, choose Turn On TV Automatically and pick the days and a time for each. Then tap Add the DayBoard Shortcut (or, for weekdays, download it here). The shortcut already has your days. While adding it, Shortcuts asks which Apple TV (twice — choose the same one) and what time to run; DayBoard is already chosen. The days and time are built into the shortcut. Shortcuts adds its automation turned off, so open the shortcut, tap “Automation is turned off” and turn it on. If some days need a different time, DayBoard Companion gives each time its own Add button. The iPhone needs to be at home on the same Wi-Fi when it runs, and the Apple TV needs Settings › Remotes and Devices › Control TVs and Receivers turned on so waking it turns the TV on.

Setting Up Host Mode

  1. Pair your iPhone with the rental's Apple TV (Pair Companion on the TV), then open that TV in DayBoard Companion and choose Host Mode.
  2. Add your property name, the Wi-Fi network and password, check-in and checkout times, checkout steps, your house guide and local favorites.
  3. Paste your booking calendar's export link. Airbnb: Calendar › Availability › Connect calendars › Export calendar. VRBO: Calendar › Import & export › Export. Booking.com: Rates & Availability › Sync calendars › Export. The TV reads it every half hour; blocked dates are ignored.
  4. Your upcoming stays appear in DayBoard Companion within a minute or two. Add each guest's name, and a personal welcome if you like.
  5. Set a four-digit host PIN, turn Host Mode on and save. While it's on, the TV hides your calendar, reminders and every setting. To turn it off or pair another phone from the TV, choose Host at the bottom of the welcome screen and enter the PIN; you can also turn it off in DayBoard Companion.
